Hello
I’m Ria Bakthisaran, an award-winning dancer and aspiring physician. Dance has been at the center of my life for as long as I can remember. I began my journey in Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian art form that taught me discipline, storytelling, and cultural pride. Over time, I expanded into contemporary, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and acro, discovering new ways to express resilience, confidence, and joy.
Through these experiences, I realized that dance was more than performance — it was a pathway to healing, wellness, and community. Watching seniors light up during seated-friendly sessions and seeing younger students gain confidence showed me the true impact movement can have on people’s lives.
That’s why I founded Wellness Through Dance: to blend artistry, science, and compassion into a program that makes wellness accessible to everyone — across ages, abilities, and backgrounds. This initiative reflects my vision not just as a dancer, but as an aspiring physician who believes that well-being starts with connection, creativity, and inclusivity.
Contemporary research confirms what I’ve seen firsthand: dance can improve mental health, memory, and community connection. By founding Wellness Through Dance, I set out to translate this science into real impact — creating programs that make well-being accessible for every age and ability.
